Photo policy

Using your photographs to run the competition is part of what you paid for. Using them to advertise is not, and needs your permission — which is optional, separate, and can be withdrawn.

We keep these apart on purpose. If we bundled them into one mandatory tick box, the permission would not be freely given, and under the GDPR it would be worth nothing.

You keep the copyright in your photographs. Entering gives us a licence — non-exclusive, free of charge, worldwide — to do these things and no others:

• show the work to the judges assigned to your nomination, identified only by its entry code;
• store it as part of the edition’s record, including for a complaint or a re-check;
• publish the result attached to that entry code;
• where you place, announce your name and your placed work publicly — on the results page and on our own channels. Announcing winners is the competition; there is no version of it that stays private.

This licence lasts as long as the edition’s published record. It does not let us sell your images, license them to anyone else, or use them to sell an unrelated product.

Everything else is promotion, and it is a separate, optional tick box at checkout. If you give it, we may use your photographs:

• in promotional material for future editions;
• on our social channels and website outside the results themselves;
• in paid advertising for the championship.

Always with your name credited, unless you ask otherwise. Never edited in a way that misrepresents your work, and never in a context that would reflect badly on you.

You may withdraw this at any time by writing to contact@expert-lash.com. We stop using the images going forward and remove them from material we control. Print or advertising already placed cannot always be recalled; we will tell you honestly what is still out there. Withdrawing changes nothing about your entry, your scores or your placing.

The photographs show another person. Before you upload, you must have her agreement — for the judging and results use in clause 2, and, if you ticked the promotional box, for clause 3 as well.

• She must be at least 18. We do not accept works showing minors.
• She must know the images will be seen by an international judging panel and published with the results.
• Her agreement should be in writing, and you should keep it. We may ask you for it if she ever contacts us.

By uploading, you confirm you have it. If a model asks us to remove her images, we do so — and where that removal makes a work impossible to judge, the work is withdrawn, without a refund of that slot.

Only the judges assigned to your nomination, and the organising team. Judges see an entry code and never your name; the system holds no path from a work to a participant that a judge could follow. Other participants cannot see your works at all.

You can ask us to take down a photograph at any time, and we will, except where it is part of a published result that would become incoherent without it — in which case we discuss it with you rather than deciding alone. See also your rights in the privacy policy.
